Some exciting news from Big Grove Brewery this week as they plan to release their hazy double ipa “Starla” in cans this weekend. Showcasing citra and Idaho 7 hops, the first release of “Starla” clocked in at 6.4%, not sure if the 2nd run will be the same or not. Along with “Starla” Big Grove has also released “All New Everything” double IPA in cans.

A busy week for BG for sure and to top it off, their collab with Adventurous Brewing, “Big Adventure” hazy double IPA and “Northside” Helles Lager will be featured in Northside Oktoberfest in a box. Join us as we tap our first ever keg of Richard the Whale from Iowa’s own Big Grove Brewery! This Russian Imperial Stout is Bourbon Barrel Aged and comes in at 11.5% ABV. This particular keg is the 2019 Richard aged for about 11 months.

Iowa Brewing in Cedar Rapids will be releasing barrel aged Hang Fire and the Hang Fire variants September 18th @ 12 p.m.! The variants this year will include * Rum Barrel Hang Fire with cocoa nibs and coconut * Brandy barrel aged in Driftless Glen brandy barrels * Bourbon barrel aged in Cedar Ridge barrels * Vanilla bean aged in Cedar Ridge barrels with Madagascar vanilla beans

Hang Fire is a giant Russian Imperial Stout that was brewed last year to celebrate our third anniversary. Half of the batch was put into barrels and aged for over a year. This year’s release includes four variants.
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲-𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵. Bottles will be available for pickup on September 18th and 19th, with two pickup time windows on each day to choose from at checkout. A link to the pre-sale store will be posted on Monday morning. Lion Bridge Brewing will be adding another IPA to their lineup next Wednesday when they release “Off-Grid” IPA. Many folks in the CR and surrounding area will appreciate how this beer was brewed! 10 days without power after the Derecho devastated Cedar Rapids, Lion Bridge had to turn to a generator like many others to save this beer! Off Grid IPA (6.6%) – Brewed to commemorate the week of production after the Derecho Storm of 2020 where we had no power at the brewery for 10 days. A robust generator kept our production going and saved our beer. This Galaxy-hopped IPA is a delicious product of these trying times.”

Big news from Big Grove Brewery last night as they subtly announced the release date for Richard the Whale for December 5th! It was a sneak peek at a Richard sampling so as of now, no details on the process release were given, but stay tuned for more information on that as that date approaches! Pulled a sample of Richard the Whale 2020 today from this Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel. Annnnd can bet the beer is fire 🔥 But you may not know the barrel (and more specifically the nail we used to pierce the barrel) was on fire to keep the process sanitary. 😏 Oh and save the date for Saturday, December 5 for the release of our favorite barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout 🐳
Tasting sounding brew coming from the folks at Clock House this Thursday as they are set to release an Imperial IPA that is both west and east coast inspired! Holland Oats IPA will be released at 3:00 p.m. and will be available in cans!
An Imperial IPA inspired by West Coast bitterness and East Coast haze. Brewed with Galaxy, Vic’s Secret, and Citra hops. This beer has intense floral and melon notes with a nice clean bitter finish.

Oktobot 3000 (Barrel-Aged Imperial Märzen, 8.5%abv) – A fusion brew with German and Czech roots in the recipe as well as the name (“robot” is a word with Czech origins). Munich and Bohemian Pilsner Malt are the motherboard to this amped up version of the style, while 6 months in Rye Whiskey barrels greases the cogs and makes sure it all computes. Available in 4 packs.
