The cat is out of the bag. As some of you have heard, the rumors are true! We are thrilled to bring to you URBAN CHESTNUT out of St Louis. Besides the tremendous respect that we have for this brewery and their almost dogmatic way of sticking with Classic German Styles, they are above all a wonderful bunch of humans that we are proud to call friends. It doesnt get any better than crisp, clean German beers brewed by an actual German. Brewmaster Florian Kuplent brings two decades of artisan brewing experience to Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. From serving as a brewer’s apprentice in a small German brewery to developing award-winning beer recipes for one of the world’s largest brewers, Florian now shares his distinctive brewing creations with the craft beer enthusiasts of St. Louis from the brewhouse of his start-up brewery, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company.

Florian pays “reverence” to the heritage of beer with offerings of classically-crafted, timeless European beer styles. This philosophy is also utilized at the Urban Chestnut Hallertauer Brauerei located in Wolnzach, Bavaria, where timeless regional classics are brewed alongside modern styles.


  • URBAN CHESTNUT ZWICKEL 6/4/16oz CANS – Bavarian Lager. Pronounced ‘zv-ick-el’, the flagship lager of Urban Chestnut. It is an unfiltered, unpasteurized, German classic that finishes as a smooth-drinking, naturally cloudy bier. 5% ABV – MO
  • URBAN CHESTNUT Big Shark Tangerine Radler 6/4/16oz CANS – Tangerine Radler. In German, “Radler” means: cyclist and it also means: Bier-mixed-with-soda. Thirst quenching and exactly what you need for a summer day! 4.2% ABV – MO
  • URBAN CHESTNUT STAMMTISCH 6/4/16oz CANS – German Pilsner. A “Stammtisch” is an informal group meeting held on a regular basis – more directly translating to ‘table for regulars’. Our Stammtisch was brewed to celebrate this idea of community and socializing. It’s a traditional German Pilsner featuring a blend of Hallertau and Strisselspalt hops, giving it a pronounced herbal and spicy aroma. It’s crisp and dry with a light grainy malt profile. We think it’s the perfect accompaniment to any gathering. 5.4% ABV – MO
  • URBAN CHESTNUT SCHNICKELFRITZ  6/4/16oz CANS – Bavarian Weissbier. The unmistakable characteristics of this Bavarian Weissbier are achieved with a yeast that is decidedly fruity and phenolic. You may note clove, nutmeg or even vanilla and/or banana-like aromas and flavors. 5% ABV – MO
  • URBAN CHESTNUT DORFBIER 6/4/16oz CANS – Munich Dunkel. Some refer to the Dunkel style as the original bier of Munich and its surrounding villages (Dörfer). This everyday bier ranges in color and sweetness depending on the amount of Munich and roasted malts used. The sweetness of the malt is then balanced by the use of another Bavarian friend…the Hallertau hop…in this specific case, Hersbrucker, grown near Wolnzach, Hallertau. 5.2% ABV – MO

  • Jester King Gotlandsdricka 12/750 ml Bottles – Gotlandsdricka, meaning “Drink of Gotland”, is a farmhouse ale brewed with smoked malt, juniper, and myrica gale. It’s inspired by the Scandinavian farmhouse brewing tradition. Gontlandsdricka is fabled to be the beer of the Vikings. Rudimentary malting techniques would likely have lent a smokey character to the beer and other plants besides hops (such as juniper and gale) were used for bittering. 6.6% ABV – TX

  • Jester King Mad Meg 12/750 ml Bottles – Mad Meg is a Franco-Belgian inspired “bière de provision,” which means beer for keeping or storing. Provision ales were typically higher in alcohol and cellared for longer periods of time than their lower abv counterparts. Jester King Mad Meg is a simple beer with well water, Texas barley and wheat, and organic Fuggle and Perle hops. It was fermented in stainless steel with our mixed culture of brewers yeast and wild yeast, then naturally conditioned in kegs and 750ml bottles. 8.9% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Mr Mingo 12/750ml Bottles – A farmhouse ale with roselle hibiscus. The inspiration was to make a simple beer with a subtle adjunct. 4.8% ABV – TX

  • Jester King Vague Recollection 12/750ml Bottles – Inspired by the winemaking tradition of piquette, Vague Recollection is a farmhouse ale aged on the grape pomace from Syrah & Sangiovese. 6% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Wytchmaker 12/750 ml Bottles – Farmhouse Rye IPA brewed with Texas-grown San Jacinto Two Row and Wildfire Pale Malt from TexMalt, malted Rye, and oats. It’s kettle hopped with Citra and El Dorado and dry hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra, and Mosaic Cryo. 6% ABV -TX

  • Jester King Kollaborationsbier 12/750ml Bottles – Kollaborationsbier is Live Oak Pilz wort fermented in stainless steel with Jester King mixed culture. The Pilz wort is brewed at Live Oak and driven across town to Jester King for fermentation. This simple, crushable beer maintains much of the Live Oak Pilz character when young and fresh, then goes through a mixed culture metamorphosis in the bottle as it ages. 6% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Soul Conduit 12/750ml Bottles – Farmhouse table beer aged in Old Tom Gin barrels previously housing Jester King Viking Metal. After barrel-aging, we refermented the beer with lime zest, lime juice, and fresh basil. The finished beer has a subtle smoked character with a nice herbal depth. We get notes of juniper, pine, Meyer lemon, lime leaf, backed up by a subtle salinity and smoke. We like to think of Soul Conduit as our farmhouse G&T. 4.5% ABV – TX


  • Jester King Atrial Rubicite 12/500ml Bottles – Atrial Rubicite is Jester King barrel-aged wild ale re-fermented with raspberries. Originally released in 2013, it’s their first-ever fruit beer. 5.8% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Bière de Blanc du Bois 12/500ml Bottles – To make Bière de Blanc du Bois, Texas-grown Blanc du Bois grapes were added to mature barrel-aged sour beer and refermented to dryness. Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and 100 percent bottle-conditioned. 6.7% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Biere de Coupage 12/750 ml Bottles – Biere de Coupage is a dry-hopped blend of fresh, hoppy farmhouse ale and mature, barrel-aged SPON. “Biere de Coupage” simply means beer that is cut or blended. We learned about the practice of blending young beer with old from the Franco-Belgian farmhouse tradition, and we adopted it into our beer making about a decade ago. We enjoy seeing how the microflora from the mature SPON takes the young, fresh beer in new and exciting directions. 5.9% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Biere de Syrah 12x500ml Bottles – barrel-aged sour beer refermented with Syrah grapes. Bière de Syrah consists of a blend of beer fermented in oak barrels for nine to twelve months with our mixed culture of brewers yeast and native yeast and bacteria harvested from the air and wildflowers around our brewery. The blend was then refermented with Syrah grapes for about two weeks, transferred off of the fruit, then aged for an additional nine months in oak barrels. After packaging, the beer naturally conditioned for an additional two months prior to release. Altogether, Bière de Syrah is roughly two years old. 7.3% ABV – TX 
  • Jester King Birra di Sangiovese 12/500ml – barrel aged sour beer refermented with Sangiovese grapes grown at Tyler Farms & Vineyard in Midland, Texas. 7.4% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Cerveza de Tempranillo 12/500ml Bottles – barrel-aged sour ale refermented w/ tempranillo grapes. Tempranillo wine grapes were added to mature, sour, barrel-aged beer, and allowed to referment to dryness. Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and 100% naturally conditioned. 9.4% ABV – TX
  • Jester King CRU-55 12/375ml Bottles – sour red ale puncheon barrel-aged 3 years. 8.3% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Montmorency vs. Balaton 12/500ml Bottles – Barrel aged wild ale re-fermented with Montmorency and Balaton cherries from Michigan. 🍒 One of the running jokes at Jester King is, “What is your favorite fruit to ferment with beer, and why is it cherry?” Cherries are indeed hard to beat when it comes to fruit re-fermentation. We get delicious notes of cherry pie, cinnamon, and marzipan. 4.9% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Nocturn Crysalis 12/500ml Bottles – Nocturn Chrysalis is our barrel-aged wild ale refermented with six pounds per gallon Marion Blackberries! 5.1% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Omniscience & Proselytism 12x500ml Bottles – Barrel-aged wild ale refermented with Hill Country strawberries. 4.4% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Orter i morker 12/750 ml Bottles – Akvavit Barrel Aged Dark Farmhouse Ale brewed with well water, malted barley, hops, woodear mushrooms, dried dill, dried caraway seeds, and fresh pine needles. It was fermented with our mixed culture and aged in 225L oak barrels formerly containing akvavit, a Scandinavian spirit flavored with caraway or dill. 7.9% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Repose 12/750 ml Bottles – Inspired by the dusty, hay-filled stone barns of the Nord de France that likely gave way to the rise of Bière de Garde, we included a small portion of hay in the mash for this beer. Taking a further cue from the slow and steady winter fermentation of the style, we allowed Reposé to rest in brandy barrels for almost a year. Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and 100% bottle-conditioned. 8.3% ABV – TX
  • Jester King Song of Binding 12/750ml Bottles – A collaboration with La Sirène Brewing in Melbourne, Australia. They inoculated wort in the coolship and racked it onto the yeast cake in one of their foudres for primary fermentation. They then matured the beer in French oak Pinot Noir barrels for fourteen months. 6.9% ABV – TX
  •  Jester King SPON Plum Nectarine 6/375ml Bottles – 2018 SPON — Texas Plum & Nectarine! It’s a blend of one and two year old 100% spontaneously fermented beer from 2016 and 2017, refermented with Bruce sour plums from Lightsey Farms in Mexia, Texas, Morris plums from Engel Farms in Stonewall, Texas, and white nectarines from Cooper Farms in Fairfield, Texas! SPON beers are 100% spontaneously fermented with airborne yeast and bacteria collected overnight as the wort rests in our coolship. The beer then slowly ferments and matures in oak barrels for somewhere between one to three years depending on the batch. For this blend, we racked one and two year old beer out of oak and added it to 450 lbs. of sour plums, 100 lbs. of plums, and 400 lbs. of nectarines for refermentation. With our SPON beers, as well as for everything we brew, our aim is to create something uniquely tied to a cross-section of time, place, and people, never to be repeated or duplicated again. This is what farmhouse brewing means to us and gives us passion for what we do. 5.3% ABV – TX
  • Jester King SPON Raspberry & Cherry 6/375ml Bottles – 2018 SPON Raspberry & Cherry is a blend of one, two and three year old 100% spontaneously fermented beer refermented with raspberries and cherries. For our 2018 blend, we selected two puncheons of SPON from 2014, two puncheons of SPON from 2015, and one 225 liter barrel of SPON from 2016. After creating the blend, we refermented it with 960 pounds of raspberries and 840 pounds of Balaton cherries. 5.4% ABV
  • Jester King SPON Red Grape 6/375ml Bottles – 2016 SPON MOURVEDRE & SANGIOVESE – 100% spontaneously fermented beer, refermented with Mourvedre and Sangiovese grapes. We took three barrels of two year old SPON from 2014 and one barrel of three year old SPON from 2013 (about 1,600 liters), and added 500 pounds of Mourvedre grapes from the Texas High Plains and 500 pounds of Sangiovese grapes from Colorado. We allowed the beer to referment with the grapes to dryness, then naturally conditioned the beer in kegs and bottles resting on their side. 7% ABV – TX
  • Jester King SPON Three Year Blend 6/375ml Bottles – Three Year Blend is a blend of three different vintages — 2014, 2015 and 2016 — of 100% spontaneously fermented beer. Our goal is to make beer inextricably linked to our time, place, and people by harnessing the microflora, climate, and ecology of the Texas Hill Country. 5.8% ABV – TX
  • Jester King SPON Three Year Blend 6/750ml Bottles – 2017 SPON — Three Year Blend is a blend of three different vintages — 2014, 2015 and 2016 — of 100% spontaneously fermented beer. Our goal is to make beer inextricably linked to our time, place, and people by harnessing the microflora, climate, and ecology of the Texas Hill Country. 5.8% ABV – TX
  • Jester King SPON White Grape 6/375ml Bottles – 2018 SPON Muscat is a blend of 100% spontaneously fermented beer refermented with 2,000 pounds of Muscat grapes from Sulpher Bluff, Texas (2018 harvest)! The grapes were really pleasant, reminded us of honeysuckle and flowers, and refermented very nicely with SPON. Our SPON beers (short for “spontaneous”) are brewed with unfiltered well water, Texas malted barley, Texas raw wheat, and aged hops from our barn. The wort sits overnight in our coolship and collects wild yeast and bacteria from the air before spontaneously fermenting in oak barrels for typically one to three years. They are then conditioned in bottles and kegs through natural refermentation. As we state on our label, SPON is a unique reflection of the ecology of the Texas winter, the Texas Hill Country, and the people of Jester King. 6.4% ABV – TX
  • Jester King UberSPON 12/750 ml Bottles – UberSPON is young farmhouse ale “cut” with mature Jester King SPON, then dry hopped with organic Fuggle and Perle from The Oregon Hophouse. 5.9% ABV – TX

“Bluesberry” Fruit Burst sour from Iowa Brewing debuting this Friday Night @Blues Night in the Park in Cedar Rapids!

A big Friday night awaits in Cedar Rapids as this Friday, May 19th, Iowa Brewing will be debuting their newest addition to their extremely popular “Fruit Burst Sour” portfolio as “Bluesberry” debuts! Making the debut even more significant is that it will be coming and pouring at Blues Night in the Park (Green Square in Cedar Rapids)!

This beer features blue raspberry, orange, and pineapple flavors that give it a sweet, juicy and slightly tart taste and it checks in at 6% ABV. This beer will only be available on draft and possibly your only chance to get a taste will be at the Blues Night event!

The event itself has a $5 cover and will feature recognized blues acts such as BF Burt, Keesha Pratt Band, Matthias Lattin, and Ken Valdez.

Local food vendors will be on hand to try their delicious items as well! Need Pizza, Willy Ray’s Q Shack, and The Hip Stir will have their wonderful food available and Chophouse Downtown will have cotton candy! Gates will open at 5 p.m. and music will go from 6-10 p.m.!

The OG Ciders of Normandie:

  • Julien Fremont, Cidre Brut Nature (2020) 12/750ml – A mix of at least 10 varieties of apples. Apples are hand harvested, then, for the fruit that needs it, stored in an attic in order to slightly dehyrate the fruit and increase the concentration. The apples are then mashed to obtain a pulp that macerates for a few hours before being pressed through a web cloth to gather the juices. The juice is then racked into large barrels where it ferments for about six months. After racking the juices between barrels in order to calm down the yeasts, the juices are bottled partially fermented and will continue to ferment in the bottle, trapping the created carbon dioxide and resulting in a natural carbonation. A deposit at the bottom of the bottle is normal.
  • Cidrerie du Leguer Cidre Tempet’ 12/750ml – Cédric Le Bloas moved back home to Brittany to make traditional Breton ciders from organically grown French cider apples. (This guy is gently hopped to perfection)
  • Cidrerie du Leguer Poire 12/750ml – Handmade pear cider from Brittany in northwest France. Cédric Le Bloas inherited his cider making skills from his Grandfather.
  • Clos des Citots, Poire 12/750ml – A dry cider made from organic pears with some noticeable sediment. Martine & Gérard Lenormand grow both apples and pears, and have been working the land since 1998. Their Poiré is made from a mix of Plant de Blanc, De Cloche, and Champagne pears, planted on limestone/loam soils. Fermentation is in the tank and the poiré goes through a light filtration before bottling with no sulfur added.

The Wonderful and Funky Ciders of Spain:

  • Alma de Trabanco Quinquina (6x1L) – Alma de Trabanco Quinquina en Rama is a new aperitif from Trabanco, the most iconic natural cider house in Asturias, Spain. Alma was born from memories of founder Emilio Trabanco, who would add a little cider to his vermouth, thus balancing the sweetness of vermouth with the refreshing acidity of his cider. Alma is the refinement of decades of local tradition. Made with cinchona, wormwood, savory, gentian, artemisia, boldo, cinnamon, star anise, coriander, thyme, and vanilla. Fruits include cherry, orange peel, and lemon.
  • Trabanco Sidra Natural Finca San Pedro De Anes (12x750ml) – Apples: 70% Lin with a blend of local apples sourced from the San Pedro de Anes orchard. Vinification: This cider has been fermented with indigenous yeasts and in accordance with the guidelines for “Naturally Fermented Quality Ciders.” Serving: Sidra Natural should be served cold in a wide glass and poured from a great height to break up the residual carbonic gas. Only a small amount (one sip’s worth) should be poured into the glass at a time.
  • Begiristain D.O. Euskal Sidra Natural 12/375ml – The Begiristain cider house is the oldest cider house still in operation in the Goierri and Tolosaldea area. Beautiful and a great example of Authentic Basque Sidra
  • Begiristain Gorenak Sidra Natural 8/375ml – As its name suggests “the supreme, the sublime, the highest ones,” GORENAK represents the highest-quality sagardoa or Basque cider brands.
  • Arizia Sagardoa Cider 6/750ml – Basque Sidra. It is made following the traditional method, without additive yeasts or chemical products. It has a special character and amber color, interesting bitterness and fabulous apple flavor. The low acidity levels make this cider healthy and a totally natural product.
  • RIBELA ARTESANA SIDRA 24/330ml – Sidra produced with a selection of historical Galician apples. The perfect balance between sour, sweet and bitter hints.
  • Isastegi Sagardo Naturala 12/375ml – Gloriously pure, funky Basque Cider. Made from a blend of local indigenous apple varieties, this is wonderful stuff!
  • Arratzain Sagardo Naturala 12/750ml – Pure and direct certified organic Basque cider. This 3 hectare family estate is located in the mountains just south of San Sebastian. This natural cider is made from a mixture of 20-30 different native Basque apple varieties, fermented in stainless steel and then aged in large old oak barrels.

  • Hogan’s Hazy Daisy Bag-in-Box 3/3L – Medium still cider in Packaged in Bag in box (like boxed wine…) 3.9% ABV.
  • Hogan’s Dry Cider 12/500ml bottles – Dry, sparkling British cider balances the complexity of tannic English bittersweet cider apples with a hint of residual sweetness. 5.8% ABV.
  • Hogan’s Medium Dry Cider 12/500ml bottles – Medium dry, sparkling British cider. 5.8% ABV.
  • Henney’s England’s Pride Medium Cider 12/500ml – A Semi-Dry, slightly aerated cider. The indication “England’s Pride” emphasizes the original English method of making cider, consisting in the fermentation of freshly squeezed apple juice and aging throughout the winter. Cider has a good balance of sweetness and sourness while possessing bright apple tones and light dryness. This drink is universal, it is served slightly chilled, with pastries, dishes from vegetables, fish, and poultry. 6% ABV.
  • Henney’s Dry Cider 12/500ml – Dry Aerated cider made from red bittersweet English apples. It includes varieties of Dabinett, Ashton Bitter, Tremletts Bitter, Yarlington Mill, and Michelin. This selection of apples provided the drink with a clean, bright fruity taste with fine tannins and notes of spices. Dry cider “Henney’s” has pleasant carbonization and lightness, it is served slightly chilled, with meat and vegetable dishes. 6% ABV.
  • Henney’s Vintage Cider 12/500ml – Made from a single year’s pressing and naturally still. Appley and intense, with a real depth of flavor, it tastes of late summer with notes of apricots, herbs, and apple crumb and is the sort of cider you serve with food. 6.5% ABV.

Local Craft Cellar celebrating 1 year Anniversary on May 20th!

On Saturday, May 20th, the Local Craft Cellar in Cedar Rapids (7085 C Ave. NE A1) will be celebrating their 1 year anniversary, and to no one’s surprise, Jason and staff will be celebrating in style with some amazing deals and samples of their wonderful supply of beer and food items!
