Thew Brewing announces “Sour Saturday” set for April 17th!

Sour beer lovers rejoice as Thew Brewing will be filling their tap lines with their “Askew” sour series on April 17th starting at noon! Calling all sour fans! We’re bringing back the original seven from the Askew sour series and adding five more for a full takeover of our own taps! Vote for your favorite and you may see it in a bigger run and in crowlers.Supply will be limited. On tap only, no crowlers, no flights.

Thew 3 year anniversary celebration starting Friday 3/12!

Thew Brewing will be celebrating their 3 year anniversary with a weekend full of new beers available for purchase or to enjoy in the taproom and much more! Here’s what they have going:

*Saturday, March 13th – Thew Anniversary Party & Bottle Release 12-10 PMNoon: Bottle release of Double Tappa (BA imperial brown) and its coconut chocolate variant, $20/each We’ll have a fun tap lineup, including Double Tappa and the coconut chocolate variant. The Hacienda Las Glorias/La Cantina taco truck will be on site from 5-9 PM.

Thew + Pulpit Rock collab “Together 4ever” Peach Milkshake IPA releases this Friday! (2/12)

Thew Brewing and Pulpit Rock Brewing are once again coming together for a collab release of “Together 4ever”! This release will take place this Friday, February 12, @4:00 p.m. Here are the details on this beer:

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Together 4ever is back! We brew this milkshake IPA with peach, vanilla, and lactose every year with our pals at Pulpit Rock. Come get this sweet treat! Available on tap and in crowlers.

Along with the collab release, Thew will have the following beers available:

We will have cans of Pulpit Rock beers to enjoy in our taproom or to go:
Island Life – pastry sour with strawberry, mango, and lemonade (contains lactose)
Blemon – pastry sour with blueberries, white cake, and lemon zest (contains lactose)

Thew Brewing: “A Very Barrelly Weekend!” coming Jan. 29th!

Thew Brewing will be bringing some barrel aged brews to their taproom and at Johnson Avenue Hy-Vee for their “A Very Barrelly Weekend” event on January 29th! Here is what’s going down that weekend:

January 29th – releases of:
Max Walker: Timecop (BA Belgian Quad)
Thew’s Helpful Smile (BA Imperial Stout, brewed for Johnson Ave. Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids)
Crosspark in the Rye (BA Sour Rye Saison) and Raspberry Crosspark in the Rye (BA Sour Rye Saison with Raspberry) both brewed for Crosspark Rd. Hy-Vee in Coralville.

**All four beers will be on tap; limited bottles of the Hy-Vee beers will be available in our taproom.Thew Crew members will have the opportunity to reserve bottles of the Max Walker – a handful of platinum and silver memberships are left. They also just tapped This Mostly Iowa Fabric which is a NE pale ale dry hopped with cashmere hops from Buck Creek!

Thew Brewing announces barrel sampling for 1/13 and 2021 Thew Crew memberships plus more!

A lot of news from Thew Brewing today! A barrel sampling coming on January 13th, Thew Crew membership opportunities, and a barrel aged quad release coming? Here we go with this update:

Let’s start with the barrel sampling. All info courtesy of Thew:

Have you ever wondered what beer tastes like at different points in the barrel aging process? This event will give you the opportunity to sample beers from all barrels currently in use in our taproom. Our brewmaster, Chris, will give background on the barrels and the beers created for them.Chris Luken, Cheese Specialist at Oakland Road Hy-Vee, will be creating cheese and meat boards to be enjoyed with the samples. A vegetarian option is available.Cost for the event is $20 and includes one full pour in addition to samples from each barrel. Cheese boards are $15 and will be suitable for two people to share!Email haley@thewbrew.com to register. Please specify which night you are attending (Wednesday, January 13th or Thursday, January 14th), number of tickets, and number of cheese boards. Seating is limited.Appropriate Covid-19 distancing protocols are in place in our taproom. Masks are required when you are not seated at a table.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time for a Beer! “Glyn-Mawr Winery” Iowa Beer Advent Calendar Day #1!

And it begins! The only thing that used to get me excited about December 1st was the Family Channel/FreeForm, whatever the channel is called now, and their “25 Days of Xmas” constant cartoons and Christmas shows. Now, there’s a better reason! Glyn-Mawr-The Local Winery in Mount Vernon has come up with an Iowa brewery-only beer advent calendar. The brainchild of owner Anna Wilson, this advent calendar consists of 24 different Iowa brewed beers from 15 different Iowa breweries. Thanks to everyone who ordered a calendar and to the breweries who participated, it seems like this was considered a success and I hope everyone gets to experience how great the beer is in our fine state! Excited all day to get home to rip open my first beer present of the year, I was greeted with….

DAY #1 BEER #1 – Thew Brewing “This Most Beautiful Fabric” – this Hazy pale ale is brewed with cashmere hops which can bring many different citrus and tropical fruit tasting profiles. Coming in at 5.25% this is definitely a sessionable brew that you can enjoy a few of while watching your favorite Christmas show. Well done Flenker family! Thew releasing “Cure-All No. 2020” barleywine: An Oakland Rd. Hy-Vee Exclusive on Oct. 17th!

Thew Brewing has teamed up with Oakland Road Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids for a special release of “Cure-All No. 2020” barleywine. This beer was made specifically for Oakland Road Hy-Vee and the release will consist of 16.9 oz bottles and it will be on tap with a special cheese pairing as well! Here’s more courtesy of Thew:

We brewed a barleywine for Oakland Road Hy-Vee and it has been aging in an apple brandy barrel from Cedar Ridge for nine months.Release details: A limited number of bottles will be available at our taproom release ($14, 16.9 oz. bottle). It will also be available on tap and Chris Luken, Oakland Road’s amazing cheese specialist, will be creating cheese boards to pair with the beer that will be available to enjoy in our taproom or to go. Details on cheese boards coming next week!Thew Brewing kindly requests that guests wear masks when moving about our taproom and observe social distancing guidelines. Per the Iowa ABD, guests must be seated while consuming food or beverages.

Thew Brewing in Cedar Rapids will soon be celebrating their 2 year anniversary. Festivities will start on Friday March 13th and continue through the weekend. Here’s a rundown of what’s to come!

Friday, March 13th:

Release of new Berliner Weisse

Saturday, March 14th:
– O’s Grill on site
Bottle release at noon of Lily, a barrel-fermented saison ($20, 22 oz. bomber, limit 2 per person). 50% off one previous bottle release with purchase of Lily! (Limit one 50% off bottle per person.)

**Iowa Brewing Company – a big day of bottles for Iowa Brewing Company as they are set to release Barrel-aged OREOja Baltic Porter that is finished in Templeton Rye whiskey barrels with “America’s Favorite Cookie.” This and the Hurricane Season will be available Friday the 29th @ 11AM only at the Iowa Brewing taproom.

thew**Thew Brewing Company – Thew will be continuing their “Dark Beer” week on Friday with a whole bunch of tappings. Here’s what they have going:

On tap Friday:
– Darkest Corners (barrel-aged imperial stout)
– Double Tappa (imperial brown ale)
– Old Man Strength (barrel-aged old ale)
– Black IPA
– Imperial stout
– Belgian strong

Bottle release deets courtesy of Thew:

We’ve had an old ale aging in a Weller barrel from Buffalo Trace and we’re anxious to share it with you. Old Man Strength will be packaged in 22 oz. bomber bottles and wax sealed.

Thew Crew members will have two bottles each reserved. You may pick your bottles up beginning Wednesday. Member bottles will be held until Friday, December 6th.

For the general public, release will start at noon on Friday. $20/bottle, 4 bottle per person limit.

In addition to Old Man Strength, we’ll have:
– Firkin of Double Tappa with Coconut
– Randall with Helianthus (sunflower saison) infused with fresh cranberries

 

**Quarter Barrel – Darkest Peru Russian Imperial Stout aged 9 months in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels with Peruvian Coffee, Peruvian Cacao, and Huacatay (Peruvian Black Mint) will be sold in 4-packs @ The Quarter Barrel Arcade & Brewery!

**Big Grove Brewery and Bootleggin’ Barzini’s have teamed up for an exclusive barrel-aged barleywine release only available at Barzinis on Black Friday. This barley wine is aged in Cedar Ridge single malt whiskey barrels and will come in a 375 mL bottle. Barzinis will also have their Bourbon County release.

Thew Brewing Dark Beer Week Lineup! Begins 11/26!

Thew Brewing will be hosting their dark beer week beginning on Tuesday, November 26th! They will be releasing a new beer every day including a bottle release on Friday of Old Man Strength which is an old ale aged in Weller barrels. Here’s their lineup for a beer packed week:

Tuesday: Release of Thew Kickoff imperial stout, 11 AM Kickoff

Wednesday: Hop Next Door Tour! Thew will be infusing a pale ale with hops from Local Pour Street Food. Local Pour will then make a fondue with that beer. You can have the beer at Thew, get your receipt stamped and then take it next door to Local Pour for a discount on the fondue.

Friday: Noon release of Old Man Strength. Firkin of Double Tappa (imperial brown ale) w/coconut. Randall with Helianthus (sunflower saison) infused with cranberries.
Iowa game at 1:30 p.m. with BOGO on select beers.

Saturday: opening bottles of Darkest Corners, 11 PM Kickoff, 11 AM Kickoff
