Cider has a good balance of sweetness and sourness while possessing bright apple tones and light dryness. Vinification: This cider has been fermented with indigenous yeasts and in accordance with the guidelines for “Naturally Fermented Quality Ciders.” Serving: Sidra Natural should be served cold in a wide glass and poured from a great height to break up the residual carbonic gas. Only a small amount (one sip’s worth) should be poured into the glass at a time.
  • Begiristain Gorenak Sidra Natural 8/375ml BOT – As its name suggests “the supreme, the sublime, the highest ones,” GORENAK represents the highest-quality sagardoa or Basque cider brands.
  • Begiristain D.O. Euskal Sidra Natural 12/375ml BOT – The Begiristain cider house is the oldest cider house still in operation in the Goierri and Tolosaldea area. Beautiful and a great example of Authentic Basque Sidra
  • Arizia Sagardoa Cider 6/750ml BOT – Basque Sidra. It is made following the traditional method, without additive yeasts or chemical products. It has a special character and amber color, interesting bitterness and fabulous apple flavor. The low acidity levels make this cider healthy and a totally natural product.
  • Arratzain Sagardo Naturala 12/750ml BOT – Pure and direct certified organic Basque cider. This 3 hectare family estate is located in the mountains just south of San Sebastian. This natural cider is made from a mixture of 20-30 different native Basque apple varieties, fermented in stainless steel and then aged in large old oak barrels.

The OG Ciders of Normandie:

  • Cidrerie du Leguer Cidre Tempet’ 12/750ml BOT – Cédric Le Bloas moved back home to Brittany to make traditional Breton ciders from organically grown French cider apples. (This guy is gently hopped to perfection)
  • Cidrerie du Leguer Poire 12/750ml BOT – Handmade pear cider from Brittany in northwest France. Cédric Le Bloas inherited his cider making skills from his Grandfather.
  • Clos des Citots, Poire 12/750ml BOT – A dry cider made from organic pears with some noticeable sediment. Martine & Gérard Lenormand grow both apples and pears, and have been working the land since 1998. Their Poiré is made from a mix of Plant de Blanc, De Cloche, and Champagne pears, planted on limestone/loam soils. Fermentation is in the tank and the poiré goes through a light filtration before bottling with no sulfur added.

The oldest portion of lambic was brewed on the 28th of November 2014. While blending, we added spring honey from our own bee hives. 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Cuvée Armand & Gaston is a blend of one-, two-, and three-year old traditional lambics, all brewed at Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen. Spontaneous fermentation, patient maturation in oak barrels, and continued evolution in the bottle result in a distinctively complex beer. No two bottlings are alike, as there are multiple variables in the blending process, a variety of barrel sizes and shapes, differences in aged lambic proportions, etc. This cuvée, like all of our lambic, is 100% natural, authentic, spontaneously fermented, and crafted with steadfast adherence to tradition, like Armand and Gaston Debelder have always done it. This geuze has fermented in the bottle and will continue to develop its tastes and aromas over its long life when properly cellared. With a pleasant tartness and organic notes of almond and cinnamon as it warms in the glass, 3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek, will age perfectly but may lose some of the vibrant red colours and forest fruit aromas. This unfiltered and unpasteurised lambic is all-natural with no artificial juices, syrups, or sugars added.   • Ridgeway Imperial Russian Stout 12/330ml BOT – Brewed only once a year. Slow, extended ageing before bottling differentiates this style from simply being a strong stout or porter. It makes Ridgeway Imperial Russian Stout considerably more vinous and sharp than an export stout. There is just that little nod towards a Lambic beer, with very roasty and very bitter flavors. The bitterness mellows over time in the bottle so the style is not intended to be overtly hoppy. 10% ABV – UK
  • Coniston Old Man Ale 12/500ml bottles – Old English Ales. A radically different beer… it has roast barley added to the pale and crystal malts. It has a deep burnished copper colour, a rich port wine aroma, a big chocolate and creamy malt palate and a dry, grainy, roasty finish balanced by hop bitterness and tart fruit. It is a remarkably complex beer that deepens and changes as you sip it. 4.8% ABV – UK
  • Weird Beard Black Christmas 24/330 ml  BOT – A wonderful Cranberry Christmas Stout. 4.5% ABV – UK

Brouwerij De Ranke – BELGIUM :

  • De Ranke Pere Noel 24/330ml BOT – Père Noël is a Christmas ale, though very different from any other Christmas ales you might know. While most Christmas ales are rich & sweet, this one is amber-coloured, 7% vol. Alc. strong and tastes quite bitter. The complex taste is completed with the addition of liquorice. In the recipe we can also find pale malt, Munich malt, Caramel malt, Brewers Gold hops and Hallertau hops. 7% ABV – BE
  • De Ranke Cuvee 6/750ml BOT – Cuvée De Ranke is a mixed fermentation, blended ale. A combination of barrel-aged beer and lambic. 70% Belgium sour ale with 30% lambic. 7% ABV – BE
  • De Ranke Grapevine Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Lambic 6/750ml BOT – Once a year De Ranke releases the marvellous ‘Grapevine’ series. This year sees the ‘Trebbiano d’Abruzzo’ edition, with red grapes from this famous Italian wine growing region being the star of the show, resting in the barrel mixed fermented beer to make for a wonderfully complex Fruit Lambic. A wine-like beer that explores the boundaries between beer and wine. 6.5% ABV – BE
  • De Ranke Kriek Audenaerde 6/750ml – Flanders Oud Bruin. This beer is inspired by the tradition of steeping whole cherries on old brown beer in the nearby city of Oudenaarde, where many producers were making it in the first half of the 20th century.   • De Ranke Mirakel 6/750ml – Delicious Gueuze. “The lambics used in this blend are one, two and three years old. Two of them are real lambics made by traditional producers of the valley of the Senne river. The third one is made in our own brewery and we’ve called it Spierelambic, after the tiny river that runs near the brewery. We love this style and decided to try to make it ourselves. that it seemed to work, was a miracle to us”. 5.5% ABV – BE

Here is a sneak peek at 2 big beers we will be releasing:
2024 ANNY is a decadent 14.4% ABV imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels then infused with roasted pecans, toasted and raw coconut, and chocolate cake!
– Public online sale for ANNY will be on Sunday, November 17th at 7PM on the OZNR app.
– Bottle pick up will start on November 23rd at 11am.
-2024 ANNY will be sold in 500 ml bottles with a limit of one bottle per transaction (meaning you can buy additional bottles after you buy your first bottle as long as they are available.).
-Proxies are allowed for bottle pick-ups.
-Proxies MUST be assigned on the OZNR app to retrieve bottles.
-Anny bottles can be picked up during normal business hours.
-Bottles of 2024 ANNY must be picked up by you or your proxy by 7pm on Sunday, December 8th, so please only buy bottles if you or a proxy can pick them up.

Gladius is a 14.6% ABV Imperial Stout aged in Heaven Hill and Blaum Brothers bourbon barrels for 21-26 months. Gladius will be released in person on 11/23 at 11am. Limits determined on turnout.

– We will also have some old favorites and new releases available to-go.
– We will open up our garage area early (around 9am), so come down, share some beers and laughs with us before we open the doors to the taproom at 11!

RIP Ron Jeffries: Jolly Pumpkin beers coming from Abu Nawas

As many of you may have heard, the legendary brewer of Jolly Pumpkin Ron Jeffries passed away this week. There are no words to express what a monumental loss to the Beer World this is. He was an inspiration, and Jolly Pumpkin was the first Beer that @abunawasbeverage brought to Iowa all the way back in 2011. Beyond being one of the original instigators of the craft beer revolution in America, he was a constant force of contagious joie de vivre. 

The world was a better place because of Ron! I couldn’t honestly remember a single time not seeing him not wearing a beautiful smile! So many memories are back from the many times we took Dexter Exit 167 on I94 in Michigan! Death is but another stop on the journey of life, or as he so appropriately said in the De Viento Collab. Beer AND STILL WE DANCE!

This very vibrant, bright, rose-colored saison has floral & spice notes mixed with hints of tartness from foeder aging & the hibiscus flowers. A beautiful piece of art presented in a glass.   • Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere 6/4/16oz CANS – Farmhouse Ale. This delicious, low-calorie, farmhouse ale is named for Ron’s Jack Russell who was struck by a car but bounced back in fine tenacious Jack Russell fashion. This farmhouse ale is brewed for those of us who have been knocked down, have picked up, dusted off, and carried on undaunted. Golden, naturally cloudy, can-conditioned, and dry-hopped for a perfectly refreshing balance of spicy malts, hops, & yeast. TIME IN OAK: 2 Months. 4.5% ABV – 24 IBU – MI
  • Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza Blanca 6/4/16oz CANS – Farmhouse Witbier. Blanca is a low-calorie farmhouse witbier brewed in Belgium’s beer blanche tradition. Spiced with orange peel & coriander, you’ll find it refreshingly tart, with a wonderfully dry finish. A year round favorite for sure. TIME IN OAK: 2 Months. 4.8% ABV – 15 IBU – MI

Bottles of ALL 2024 will be available for purchase in person at Lua next Saturday, October 5th, starting at 11AM. First come, first served, with limits determined at open. We will have a limited number of bottles available online via TOAST at 11AM as well. Proxies are allowed. Picking up for a proxy? Just be sure to have their name & order number ready for us when you’re picking up 

We also put together a 5th Anniversary ALL-you-can-eat brunch buffet by Chef James & Chef Dutch on Saturday, October 5th from 9-11AM! A limited amount of brunch tickets are available live on Toast RIGHT NOW and will remain online until sold out. Link is right there in our bio!

Purchase of a brunch ticket gets you access to our AYCE brunch buffet from 9-11AM (closed to the public), ability to pre-purchase ALL 2024 bottles to beat the line, and participation in our bottle share (bringing a bottle to share is encouraged but not required!!)

Expect brunch classics like eggs benedict, burger sliders, classic hash browns, bacon & sausage, French toast, fresh fruit, and some other healthy stuff maybe.
