Join us as we take over the streets of the Northside on Saturday, September 23rd. This year, Northside Oktoberfest celebrates 27 years and will include Iowa City BrewFest, your beloved sampling event, and bring back the Outdoor Bier Hall. Northside Oktoberfest is made possible thanks to the 2023 sponsors: Fly CID, ImOn Communications, John’s Grocery, Little Village, Pagliai’s Pizza, and Phelan Tucker Law LLP.

Iowa City BrewFest, sponsored by Fly CID, will remain exclusive with only 700 tickets available. Less than half of the tickets remain, so get yours now before it’s too late! Although the festival is open for anyone to walk through, only those with an official BrewFest glass will be able to sample beer and wine from vendors.

The Outdoor Bier Hall is the General Admission to Northside Oktoberfest. Attendees can purchase a Bier Hall mug that allows them to purchase beer and wine at Northside businesses. Only those with this mug will be able to enjoy beer and wine in the streets. Mugs are available for pre-sale now for only  $10 and will increase to $15 the day-of. The festival is open for anyone to enjoy live music and traditional Oktoberfest games and contests.

Benevolent Intentions IPA
Oats, flaked barley, and spelt lay down a foundation of thiol potential then we mash hopped with Hallertau Blanc and Belma to pack those thiols to the max and let the Cosmic Punch yeast go to work. Finally we dry hopped it with more Hallertau Blanc, Belma, and our hand-selected Citra. Big Grove Brewery Celebrates 10-Year Milestone with Weeklong Festivities

Unforgettable music & events, commemorative beer releases, and exclusive merch planned.

Iowa City, IA (August 03, 2023): Big Grove Brewery is raising a glass to celebrate a decade of amazing experiences, fresh craft beer, and Iowa hospitality. 

To commemorate the past ten years, brewers at Big Grove we are crafting ten original beers, including fan favorites, Big Grove IPA, Que Será, and the beer that started it all, West Main Wheat. These small-batch beers will be released during their anniversary throughout ten days of celebrations and community events leading up to the brewery’s official anniversary over Labor Day weekend. 

Big Grove Brewery was founded in 2013 at 101 West Main Street in Solon, Iowa, by partners Doug Goettsch, Faye Swift, and Matt Swift. From day one, we have believed “you have to give people a reason to leave their living room,” recalled Faye. On her business partners, “Matt and I have tremendous trust in each other, and Doug was a constant hospitality guru, that’s who he is in his bones.” The trio pushed on the original concept of high-quality beer, great food, and genuine care for our community. Faye added, “The best it can be is what we want it to be. I’m a person who believes in creating opportunity, and if you can see it, you can seize it.”

In 2017, the company opened Big Grove Brewery & Taproom with a full-scale production facility in Iowa City and now maintains a platinum green certification. The original partners continue to operate the company with additional operating partners for Iowa City, Des Moines, and a soon-to-be-open Lagerhaus-style brewery in Cedar Rapids. Still innovating a decade later, Big Grove Brewery offers beyond beer products, including spirit-based seltzers, and plans to release cannabis-infused sparkling water beverages. Big Grove beverages are available at bars, restaurants, and retailers across the entire state. 

The festivities officially kick off Saturday, August 26th, in the evening, with music from The Dip. The concert will be hosted in the yard from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Big Grove Brewery taproom at 1225 S. • Okra – Collab w/ Other Half – Our most recent collaboration with our buddies at @otherhalfnyc resulted in a big Hazy Double IPA. Okra is made with a creamy DIPA oat-infused base and loaded with Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, and Nectaron hops from the latest New Zealand harvest
• Envie – This delicious pale ale is juicy, hazy, and crushable. A totally new-school take on an old-school American craft beer
• SIPS – Chardonnay Apricot – A sweet and refreshingly tart sour combining Chardonnay grapes and complementary ripe, fresh apricot puree. Drinks refreshingly reminiscent of its namesake wine, replete with apricot tarts, airy pomme fruit and juicy pineapple notes.

• Trying to Find a Balance – EQ collab – Schemed up with the team at Equilibrium Brewing out of Middleton, NY. Searching for Homeostasis in an overloaded hop bill of Michigan Chinook, Strata, Cashmere Cryo, Citra & Idaho 7. We find community in our search for excess. We find meaning in breaking through. We find find comrades in the far reaches. We find a balance.
• You’re Compensating – Whoa there, pull the reins back a lil’ boss. Aggressive amounts of Citra, Strata, Mosaic Cryo & Experimental HBC 586 lifted on a Pilsner base with excessively audacious quantities of oats & wheat. It’s like “yeah… we get it… you’re super thirsty.”

• DDH Filter Wave – Double Dry-Hopped Hazy Double IPA, a new one to our portfolio. Featuring a unique hop combination of Mosaic and Falconer’s Flight, bringing forth dank floral aromas and notes of grapefruit, orange and resinous pine
• Graduated Color DIPA – This hazy brew features Citra, El Dorado, and Mosaic hops, and is popping off with grapefruit, lime, mango, and resiny tropical fruit flavors.

Equilibrium Brewing Company

•  Ghost in the Lab – PARISH COLLAB – Using a mashed up grain bill from Straight Outta The Laboratory and Ghost in The Machine, we used a massive dose of CO2 extract, Citra Incognito, and our hand selected Citra T-90s on the hotside followed by an insane amount of Citra LUPOMAX and our hand selected Citra T-90s for the Double Dry Hop; the heaviest dry-hop in Equilibrium’s history
• Photon –Photon is our light and crushable American Pale Ale loaded with pacific northwest hops. It pours a very hazy orange, releasing well-blended notes of apricot, tangerine, peach, mango, and pineapple.
• Wavelength – We started with oats and white wheat for a base before adding Simcoe and Mosaic to the whirlpool. To get some berry medley notes going we dry hopped with Mosaic and Citra at a 2:1 ratio.
• Fluctuation – Fluctuations from the sun hurl particles of plasma towards earth and create the dramatic display known as the Aurora Borealis. Fluctuation is our 8.1 % DIPA that releases bright tropical notes of passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and lychee with an undercurrent of sorbet and cream
