🥨Kinship Brewing CompanyKINFEST Próst! Oktoberfest came early for us. A sweet doughy taste off the lips. Balanced and crisp with no hoppiness. A few of these and you’ll be doing the polka in no time. 6% ABV (Garage Pub)
🥨Exile Brewing Co.OKTOBERFEST Our Marzen-style Oktoberfest is back for the season! Rich in malt with a balance of clean, hop bitterness. Biscuit-like malt aroma and flavor comes through with a touch of floral notes from the German Hallertauer hops. 5.9% ABV (Garage Pub)
🥨Big Grove BreweryFIEST BIER Nothing says “fall” quite like our Bavarian-style Märzen. Celebrate Oktoberfest and the return of more pleasant Midwest weather with this crisp, amber-hued lager that features notes of malty caramel and a smooth, clean finish. With Big Grove’s Festbier, your Biergarten is anywhere. PROST 5.9% ABV (Garage Pub)
🥨Mistress Brewing CompanyOKTOBERFEST Celebrate Oktoberfest! Mistress’s new addition is a smooth, clean German Marzen that’s strong on the malts and light on the hops. Her deep copper color and just a hint of sweetness invoke deep blue skies and cooler temps. Get her before the leaves start to turn, and enjoy this Fall beauty before she’s gone! 6% ABV (Garage Pub)
🥨Lion Bridge Brewing CompanyOKTOBOT 3000 Our Imperial Märzen is a fusion brew with German and Czech roots in the recipe, as well as the name (“robot” is a word with Czech origins). Munich and Bohemian Pilsner Malt are the motherboard to this amped up version of the style, while a healthy dose of German hops provide fuel to keep it running. Finally, our 2021 version spent 7 months aging in Willett Rye Whiskey Barrels to help grease the cogs and make sure it all computes. 8.5% ABV (Garage Pub)
🥨Confluence Brewing CompanyOKTOBERFEST Oktoberfest beer was originally brewed to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig (destined to become King Ludwig I) to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810. Flash forward more than two centuries and Oktoberfest is a personal favorite of head brewer, John Martin, who celebrated his marriage to Katie by buying homebrew equipment on their honeymoon … in October. We used plenty of German Munich and Vienna malt as well as CaraMunich malt to five this beer its rich, amber color and full-bodied, toasty flavor. Celebrate your favorite occasion with a mug of this delicious fall brew. Prost! 5.6% ABV (Inside pub)
🥨Gezellig Brewing CompanyDOPPLEFEST Welcome Dopptoberfest to the party! We love a good Oktoberfest this time of year but we felt the need to do something a little different. The obvious choice in our minds was a nice chewy German Doppelbock. It scratches that same malt-forward itch while cranking it up a couple notches. Big rich caramel, toasted fig, and marshmallow notes make it dangerously easy to drink. If you ask us it’s perfect for pairing with food, sitting around a fire, or accidentally setting food on fire. 8% ABV (Inside Pub)

Strawberry Orange Dbl Marbles Milkshake IPA

So we decided, what would happen if the two joined forces to create something completely epic? Enter 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀. Humble Bumble Buzzed Seltzer – Version 4
This is a super tropical version of the buzzed seltzer. The coconut is light but the other flavors are huge, and this should be a touch creamier than the previous versions due to the banana and mangosteen.

Miracle of Birth Center DIPA
State Fair DIPA w/ Milk Sugar (8.5%)
The Miracle of Birth Center is typically our first stop at the fair. Partially because it’s the closest entrance the State Fair has to our brewery & partially because the combination of all that fried food + witnessing the awe & splendor of new farm animals entering the world in all of their uncensored glory can, at times, be a bit… unsettling. Our hand-selected Strata & Talus + a dash of Milk Sugar, you know… for the cows.

Standing Ovation TIPA
This is us seeing how much juice we can pull out of one of our favorite hop combos. Obnoxiously loud quantities of our hand selected strata, cashmere & cashmere cryo. Just be careful standing up… this one’s a doozie coming in at a whopping 10.5%.

Double Universe DIPA
A double-ized version of our flagship hazy IPA, Mirror Universe. Double Universe is absolutely slammed with Mosaic, Mosaic Cryo, Citra, Citra Cryo, and El Dorado hops, and brewed with tons of wheat and oats. We ferment it cool with our house IPA yeast, and the result is a massive beer that positively drips tropical character.

Crankin’ Foamers
Just your standard American Slammin’ beer. A premium corn lager brewed the old fashioned way, with a cereal mash and an extended lagering period. Collaboration with Modern Times Beer.

Notes of pine and passionfruit flirt with floral citrus that is wildly well-rounded and well-balanced. All of these flavors are delivered on body so soft and tender, every plush sip begs to be slowly savored. (8% ABV)

Hypersolid New England IPA – 6% ABV
Introducing Hypersolid, a New England India Pale Ale brewed with pale malt, malted wheat and flaked oats. Hopped and dry hopped with our hand-selected Citra, El dorado Cryo, and Simcoe Cryo hops.

Iowa Eats: MIX Sushi; Cedar Rapids, IA

The beautiful thing about getting a particular craving when you live in between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City is that you can simply hop in your car and head towards either destination and places in between and satisfy that craving with one of the many amazing, locally owned restaurants/bars/breweries/pubs!

Sushi is definitely a craving I have often. There are a few very good sushi options in the IC/CR area and after reading and seeing many posts about this place, I finally made it to MIX sushi in downtown Cedar Rapids! MIX (210 3rd Avenue, Cedar Rapids) not only serves up some of the best sushi I’ve had, but also has options for the vegetarian and gluten free crowd!

I usually go overboard on ordering when I visit a new place and I did the same visiting MIX. I started off with the the “Angry Shrimp”. 3 jumbo shrimp stuffed with a sweet chilli jalapeno cream cheese blend, hand breaded and deep fried and served with some excellent sweet and sour sauce. This is also a gluten free option! The perfect start to the meal. Spicy, fresh, and delicious. It doesn’t need the sweet and sour because they are extremely flavorful but the sweet and sour is so good I doused mine in it! Would order again and on every single visit!

Next up – sushi time! Mix tuna roll – Spicy white tuna, cucumber, and avocado inside the roll with seared red tuna, mayo, spicy mayo, unagi sauce, and scallions on the outside. Refreshing, tasty, and just what I needed. A little dab of wasabi and I could hammer this roll all day long.

White Dragon Roll – Tempura battered and fried shrimp with cream cheese, cucumber inside and ebi shrimp, white tuna, honey mayo on the outside. The battered and fried shrimp give this roll and wonderful crunch and the honey mayo sweetness blends really well with a little tab of wasabi. Excellent roll!

Fire Dragon Roll – spicy tuna, cucumber inside. red tuna, red tobiko, spicy mayo outside. I didn’t think it was spicy as advertised but I really enjoyed this roll too. Refreshing, a bit spicy, and delicious and pairs perfectly with a cold Kirin Ichiban.

MIX is definitely worth visiting for the sushi crowd. Excellent service and wonderful food options. I would order the same things I ordered on my visit but I know I want to try it all! Check out MIX soon!
