With update #2 on the Need Pizza “Funds for Flenker” event will be the breweries who will have their beers flowing at Need on Thursday September 13th! Here’s the early list with more to follow as they come in and hopefully soon I’ll have a list of specific beers that will be available, hope to see you there:

Need Pizza in downtown Cedar Rapids will be hosting a “Funds for Flenker” beer and food event. This event’s proceeds will go towards helping Mr. Flenker pay for his upcoming court costs. Details are in their infancy but expect it take place in late August or early September.

There will be tons of great beer, food, and socializing throughout this event. Rumors of a bottle share have also been heard. Pullman Bar + Kroul Farm Dinner Slated for September 16th

Kroul FarmsThe 3rd annual Kroul Farm dinner featuring Pullman Bar and Diner chefs will be taking place on Sunday September 16th. Speaking from experiencing the first two dinners, this is a can’t miss event. The food, beer, and wine along with great company make this well worth the price tag. Farm Dinner part three! We’re excited to partner with Kroul Family Farms once again! Chef Ben Smart, Chef Nathan Woody, and Chef Matt Prince and the rest of the Pullman team invite you to join us on Sunday, September 16th for a culinary experience you won’t forget! Cocktail hour will begin at 3 pm with a family-style dinner immediately following. Courses will be paired with wine and beer of our choosing.

We look forward to working with Kroul Farms, as it is our highlight event of the year. We hope to see you there!

BeerCast #5: Talking Drink Local Festival and Thew Brewing!

We had awesome conversation with Mark Jensen and Matt Franklin from Cedar Rapids Brewing Society on their upcoming Drink Local! Festival which is happening this weekend at Benz Beverage Depot in downtown CR. Tickets available here. $25 now or $30 at the door. We were also joined by the proprietors Thew Brewing, Travis and Haley Flenker who talk about what is coming up for their brewery in the next few weeks. And of course, at Beercast wouldn’t be complete without wonderfully deep conversations from our host Scott and the rest of our panel. This will be the best hour and a half of your life! The fellas and I are back with BeerCast Episode #5 and we will be recording live from Thew Brewing Company in Cedar Rapids this Thursday night starting around 5ish. If you’re in the area or just want to stop down and say hi please do! This will no doubt be an informationally charged show that you won’t want to miss…..but in all seriousness, we love talking beer and talking with fellow beer lovers. Haywood will have one of his infamous rants, Matt will be delving into some beer related news articles, I’ll break down the happenings and goings-on in the area and our Host will no doubt have some cool beer related games/activities planned and the insanely difficult job of keeping us on track! 200 pounds of locally sourced Bass Farms L.L.C. cucumbers went into this bright summer beer.

Local gardeners are hard at work growing and providing fresh produce to our community and farmers markets. Some prefer to can and pickle their fresh garden harvests, but here at Lion Bridge we ferment and keg our fresh produce to bring a refreshing summer beer to YOU!

Lion Bridge Brewery Presents: Dinner w/ Chef Regina Escalante!

lion bridgeA wonderful sounding menu that will no doubt include some wonderful beers, here’s the press release on the latest local beer dinner courtesy of Lion Bridge and Chef Escalante! This sounds like a can’t miss event!

Join us for a unique evening with Chef Regina Escalante from Merida, Mexico on August 6th at Lion Bridge Brewing Company.

Regina studied Culinary School and Restaurant Management at the prestigious Paul Bocuse Institute in France. She has worked at some of the finest restaurants in Paris, Lyon, and Marseille before returning to her hometown in Merida, Yucatan to start her own restaurant, Merci. She worked at Michelin star restaurants such as La Table de Lancaster with Chef Rochetau; the Hotel Crillon, with Chef Christopher Hache in Paris; and at Le Petite Nice, under Chef Gerald Passedat in Marseille.

Regina started her career under the tutelage of Chef Cheryl Lewis in Portland, Maine as well as Chef Roberto Solis from Mexico at the young age of 17. Regina’s mother is American and her father is from Merida, Mexico. The fusion of Mexican, American, and French cultures from her upbringing manifests itself in her dishes and creations.

Regina and her husband Vincent Ros opened the doors of their own restaurant Merci in 2014, where they focus on serving breakfast, brunch, and lunch chef-inspired, locally sourced dishes.

Regina was named one of “Mexico’s Top Chefs” by The Larousse Institute at the young age of 29.

Chef Regina Escalante has worked with The Nature Conservancy on a project to protect the traditional milpa systems of the Mayan and supports urban farming projects to empower her French-style cuisine and invite her consumers to support local products; in this meeting of worlds we are taken deep into the Maya Forest to discover how milpa farming systems continue to evolve to protect seed diversity and stop deforestation.

Regina is also part of the Slow Food Movement.

She will be presenting at Newbo Evolve™ in Cedar Rapids the weekend of August 4-5 and hosting a 4-course dinner at Lion Bridge Brewing Company on August 6. We will have suggested beer pairings with all of her courses.
